The General Situation of Methyl Tetrahydrophthalic Anhydride

The definition of methyl tetrahydrophthalic anhydride is a chemical with the molecular formula of C9H10O3. It is a new type of liquid organic anhydride curing agent for epoxy resin with excellent performance. Compared with the amine curing agent, the butyric anhydride curing agent has better stability of heat and chemical resistance, and can still maintain excellent physical and electrical properties at the higher temperature. In recent years, with the continuous improvement of reliability requirements for insulation structure in the motor, electronics and electrical industry, the application of this kind of curing agent has developed rapidly.


From methyl tetrahydrophthalic anhydride wiki, we can easily find that it is a kind of high-performance product of anhydride curing agent: high purity, light color, low viscosity, low volatility, low toxicity, little heating loss, stable performance, long service life, low freezing point and can be stored for a long time at room temperature. The methyl hexahydrophthalic anhydride is refined by catalytic hydrogenation of methyl tetrahydrophenyl anhydride, of which properties are as follows: light color, transparent body, and good heat resistance (especially at 150). It can be made into white curing epoxy that has excellent mechanical and electrical properties, good moisture and weather resistance, and is less affected by light and heat. What's more, the curing epoxy is of high reactivity, and short gelation time.


The methyl tetrahydrophthalic anhydride is widely used in epoxy resin potting compound, casting compound, bonding, laminating, immersing, molding, winding, etc. It is also suitable for insulating sleeve, oil pipeline, fishing machinery, etc. For example: casting and filling electronic components, human dry transformer, high voltage switch, capacitor, electric current and voltage transformer, human and micro motor, line output transformer, large resin insulator, etc. It is well known that the curing agents of epoxy resin used in wind turbine blades and wheel hubs are mainly acid anhydride curing agents such as methyl tetrahydrophenyl anhydride or methyl hexahydrophenyl anhydride.
